Building Connections, Creating Opportunities: How UHCA is Driving Economic Power in the Construction Sector across Nebraska

At the Latino Economic Development Council (LEDC), our vision has always been rooted in economic empowerment, generational wealth building, and ensuring that our community has a permanent seat at the table. A cornerstone of this mission is our program, the United Hispanic Contractors Association (UHCA)—an initiative dedicated to leveling the playing field for Latino and minority-owned construction businesses across the region.

What started as community outreach has evolved into a powerhouse ecosystem of education, networking, and direct industry integration. UHCA is no longer just helping businesses survive; we are providing the tools, relationships, and structural support necessary for contractors to scale, compete for major commercial and public bids, and thrive long-term.

Through structured programs, hands-in-class learning, and powerful corporate partnerships, UHCA’s momentum continues to accelerate:

  • Bridging Education & Execution: Through our ongoing partnership with Metropolitan Community College (MCC), contractors and aspiring entrepreneurs dive deep into practical, real-world topics like financial management, project compliance, estimating, and business operations.

  • High-Value Industry Partnerships: Small businesses don't grow in a vacuum. UHCA bridges the gap between minority contractors and industry giants like Ronco Construction, Turner Construction, McCarthy Building Companies, Kiewit, and MCL Construction. These collaborations create authentic pathways to subcontracting opportunities, mentorship, and pre-qualification insights that were once out of reach.

  • Amplifying Latinas in Construction: We are immensely proud of our expanding work supporting women leaders in the industry. By creating dedicated spaces, resources, and networking opportunities, we are ensuring that women have the confidence, representation, and visibility to lead and succeed in construction.

  • Community in Action — Construyendo Nuestra Comunidad: Beyond business metrics, our participants embody a deep commitment to community wealth and service. Through our volunteer sub-committee, UHCA contractors give back of their time, materials, and expertise to support non-profits and community members who cannot otherwise afford critical construction or maintenance projects.

A Win-Win Ecosystem

As our active membership grows, so does our collective economic voice. UHCA provides members with continuous educational workshops at no cost, targeted marketing and business directories, direct contract connections, and relentless advocacy to ensure fair representation in local and state spaces.

When small Hispanic-owned businesses succeed, the entire regional economy wins. General contractors and developers meet their diversity and workforce goals, local supply chains strengthen, and neighborhoods see sustainable, inclusive growth.
