Adelante Initiative
A Bold Vision
The Adelante Initiative is a bold, community-driven vision to revitalize South Omaha’s cultural and economic heart, centered around the South 24th Street Business District. More than just a development project, Adelante represents an investment in Latino people, places, and prosperity, addressing decades of disinvestment with equity-centered planning. With support from local and state partners, this multi-phase initiative will reimagine public spaces, improve infrastructure, and uplift Latino voices in shaping Omaha’s future.

Phase One
Plaza De La Raza
Plaza de la Raza sits at the symbolic and geographic center of South Omaha. In Phase One, the parking lot at 24th & N streets will be transformed into a vibrant, accessible public park designed for performance, play, and connection. Featuring shaded seating areas, an amphitheater-style performance stage, literacy-based play structures, and ADA-accessible walkways, the redesigned plaza will serve as a cultural anchor and gathering place for the entire community. Plaza de la Raza’s design reflects South Omaha’s Latino heritage and is rooted in extensive community input.

Phase Two
Mixed‑use Development
As South Omaha grows as a destination for cultural tourism and economic activity, accessible parking is vital to accommodate increased visitors and traffic. Phase Two of Adelante will introduce a multi-level, multi-purpose parking structure designed to serve both local businesses and community events. This garage will ease current congestion, support foot traffic for retailers, and include pedestrian-friendly features to enhance the walkability of the district. Alternative transportation options, including improved pedestrian and bike access, are also being explored.

Phase Three
StreetScapes
Building on the redesign of South 24th Street between L and Q Streets, Phase Three of Adelante extends streetscape improvements to 25th Street and surrounding corridors. Upgrades will include ADA-compliant sidewalks, enhanced lighting, traffic-calming measures, and artistic elements that reflect the area’s cultural diversity. These improvements will increase safety, attract tourism, and create a more welcoming environment for residents and businesses alike.

Phase Four
LEDC Headquarters
As a lasting investment in South Omaha, the final phase of Adelante will establish the Latino Economic Development Center as a permanent fixture in the neighborhood. More than a building, it will be a gathering place for learning, creativity, and connection—offering pathways to employment, opportunities for small business growth, and space to celebrate culture and community leadership. Designed to serve residents of all ages, the center will foster dialogue, collaboration, and a shared vision for a more inclusive and vibrant future.
