Community Work

LEDC focuses on systemic change and expand equitable opportunities for Latinos across Omaha. Through organizing, advocating, and educating, we are building an inclusive economic future rooted in culture, community voice, and leadership. Our work focuses on empowering Latino residents and business owners, revitalizing public spaces, and ensuring South Omaha plays a central role in the region’s growth.

Culture + Tourism

LEDC was founded in response to the economic challenges faced by South Omaha’s Latino community, which was disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Born from grassroots advocacy for equitable recovery funding, our purpose is to champion economic opportunity, financial stability, and long-term systemic change for Latino residents.

Adelante Initiative

Through the Adelante Initiative, we are transforming Plaza de la Raza into a dynamic, accessible public space where culture, art, and economic activity converge. These efforts not only celebrate Latino identity but also support many Latino-owned businesses and attract visitors to one of Omaha’s most historic corridors.

Workforce Development

We are building a stronger workforce by connecting Latino community members with training, employment opportunities, and new career pathways. LEDC partners with dozens of local organizations to provide comprehensive workforce development programs. Through initiatives like United Hispanic Contractors, which resources to help Hispanic contractors grow in the construction industry, we are addressing industry gaps and expanding access to economic opportunity.

Leadership Development

At LEDC, we are cultivating the next generation of Latino leaders at the local, regional, and national levels. Our Adelante Youth Activator Program engages high school and first-generation college students in community planning and leadership development, including hands-on roles in the redevelopment of Plaza de la Raza and participation in national conferences like the United Hispanic Leadership Institute Conference. Locally, we partner with Omaha South High School and other institutions to create career exposure and civic engagement opportunities. Nationally, we’re recognized as one of just 24 Community-Based Development Organizations receiving targeted support to build trust, advance equity, and lead transformative change.
